New Oberlin
Shansi Reps.
Two
new Oberlin Shansi representatives, Daniel and David, arrived this
week. They join the two existing Oberlin Shansi reps, Anna and
Alex. Daniel and David will be with us for the next two years,
helping us with the teaching of the Regular courses.

New
Classes.

Five
Regular
classes (KR-21), one preparatory class, two intermediate, one
pre-academic and one academic, are currently running in the
morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., Mondays to Fridays.
Classes started 9 August and will end 10 December 1999. Click

two TOEFL
preparation
classes for UGM Graduate Students (TS-62) are also running in
the evening from 3.45 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.
Classes started 6 September and will end 11 October 1999.

preparation
classes for the general public are currently running in the
evening from 7:30 p.m. to 9:10 p.m., Mondays to fridays.

Also
running is one English
for Academic Purposes
class for selected staff members of Sunan Kalijaga Islamic
Institute. This sponsored intensive class runs for six hours a
day or an equivalent of 300 class hours, from 8:30 a.m. to
2:40 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays, starting from 30 August to 29
October 1999.

New
Supplemental Paper-Based TOEFL.
Starting
23 October 1999, Educational Testing Service (ETS) offers
supplemental paper-based TOEFL in some selected test centers
including Pusat Pelatihan Bahasa, UGM (Test Center K025). This
test now includes the Test of Written English (TWE) in every
administration, which has consequently made the test fee go up to
US$110.

Testing Program.
PPB
UGM regularly administers Institutional TOEFL. The next

New
Multi-Media PCs in the Library.
Two
new multi-media pcs have been installed in the library for
self-directed learning and testing. A set of language learning and
testing programs (demo version) have been installed on the pcs.
These programs, designed and developed by Tofan D. Hardjanto of
Pusat Pelatihan Bahasa, UGM, are available for all students and
members of the library at PPB. Appointments with the librarian,
however, is required as space is extremely limited.
