Syphus, I came up with another idea to keep you leveling while we try and acquire your rings. I noticed your DRK is at 42; my RNG is currently 40. As soon as I get my next two levels, I can join you in leveling. If we actually start the party going, your missing rings should be irrelevent, as you;ll already be in a party. Truth be told, no one has to know if you miss or not for the following reason. My last trip to the Nest, which got me to level 40, involved a DRK with lousy gear (half the time she was using a sword and shield!). Add that to the fact that she was afk during half the fights (I don't know WHY she wasn't booted); then even without the rings you can still be effective. Even if you're only hitting 25% of the time (I only hit about 55-60% on a very good streak), you'll still be doing some good damage and leveling. If we had a WHM in the early 40's, we'd easily be able to get a party going. If this idea sounds good to you let me know. |

I've mentioned it before in the game, so I thought I'd add this thread on how to "warp" from one part of a city to another (within the same city). Each city has it's own mini-quest, which after completion allows the player to exit his or her Mog House to any of the cities Mog House exits. Each quest involves giving a certain type of flower to an NPC. These flowers are cheapest from M&P's Market in Upper Jeuno. For Bastok: Trade an Amaryllis to Valah Molkot in Port Bastok near the mog house. For Jeuno: Trade a Yellow Rock to Valah Molkot in Port Jeuno near the mog house. These can be either purchased, mined, or grown using fruit seeds with earth crystals (needs 2) as fertilizer. For San d'Oria: Trade a Marguerite to Kuu Mohzolhi in Northern San d'Oria. She is located near Justi's Furniture. For Windurst: Trade a Lilac to Ojha Rhawash in Windurst Walls. She is located near the Mog House. One note on the NPCs. Each one is a Mithra child, so they are fairly easy to spot. Not quite sure about the names in Jeuno and Bastok. These were taken from Allakhazam, but I doubt SE would give two different NPCs the same name. This may sound like a silly quest, but getting from one end of town to another quickly saves time. Especially for those of us who don't have a Lvl 25+ THF. |

Members / Guides / Marksmenship for jobs other than RNG |

Hi all, I recently posted a thread under my Rangers guide about leveling your marksmenship. I felt like expanding on it a little, especially since those of you playing DRK, THF or WAR may also consider leveling marksmenship for later on. First off, is "why would someone besides a ranger need marksmenship"? Well, there are two answers to this question. First off, farming. Usually when farming, we tend to stick to stuff we can kill fast. However, say you are a little impatient and go farming in Pashow in the early 30's. All of the jobs who can use a crossbow can't heal yourself (unless you're subbing a mage for some odd reason, or you're a DRK with ABS-Drain). Being able to drain hp with bloody bolts from the monsters helps reduce downtime and can prevent an untimely end. Another reason is to help your party; if you don't have someone to enfeeble the monsters, you can easily do with the status bolts. Secondly is, "how does one raise their marksmenship after falling behind"? Well, the most efficient way is to do it while farming (funny how this all revolves around gil). For the early levels (1-10), you can kill anything you like to hunt just outside of town. For 10-30, I went to Giddeus and used my X-bow while farming Yagudo Bead Necklaces for my Ninja. For 30-40 I farmed elementals and Battering Rams in La Theine. For 40-? (I'm currently 62 on marksmenship) I suggest Valkurm. I've been camping outside of Selbina and clearing all the gobs that keep popping out by the gate. This is a prime spot for a couple of reasons. 1) Those fighting in the dunes will adore you for mopping up all the gobs near the gate; I often times see them fleeing there and it's satisfying to know while leveling your skill you saved someones tail. 2) The constant stream of prey, sometimes brought right to you 3) The proximity of Selbina in case you get into trouble yourself, as well as the cheap bolts you can purchase in town for 495 gil per stack. Oh, and unless you can make your own bronze bolts, these are the cheapest bolts you can purchase to help level your marksmenship. Bolts can also be cheaply purchased in Bastok, but who really wants to go there. I'll post further recommendations on hunting places later. |

What's the one thing we all want but always seem to get rid of once we get it? That's right, gil. We all have our own issues with gathering the stuff, so I figured I'd start a thread on the topic. First of all remember, time is money. Just because you can make a bunch of gil hunting for certain items doesn't mean it's the best way to make gil, especially if these items are hard to acquire. Recently, I've taken up farming air elementals and rams in La Theine. The first bit of advice I have is this. CHECK THE WEATHER FIRST. If you want to hunt elementals, make sure the forecast says that the weather pattern you're looking for is present. If the next three days show no good weather, don't go. Secondly, bring as little gear as possible. If you can kill your prey easily with little or no damage, then leave the gear behind. This of course goes for anytime you're farming. Now I know not everyone likes hunting eles since the clusters don't stack, but I can easily get 8-10 wind clusters in the span of 1-2 hours, translating into about 20k. Usually I'm able to find 2 air elementals per wind cycle, gaining anywhere between 2-4 clusters. When the wind dies down, I then switch to killing Battering Rams. Their horns go for roughly 1.5k, skins about 500 gil. Again, none of these stack, but if you keep on the move you should be plenty busy. If the region seems dead for hunting I'll hunt a few rabbits, as their skins and meat can also bring in some decent money per stack. Another benefit of hunting these 2 guys has to do with the sell rate of their items. Generally all the items sell extremely quickly. Also, if you have a mule use it. Fill up your 7 AH slots with the expensive items, than park your mule outside of the leatherworking guild, as Ram Skins are always nice for them. If selling from your bazaar, you should undercut the AH prices by like 50-100 gil for skins. Of course, unless you have 2 connections, you'll need to wait until you log off of your main character before setting up your mule. There's nothing better than logging on in the morning and seeing you're 20k+ richer since the AH items and stuff on your mule all sold. One last point that should be obvious. The best job for all this farming is thief for both treasure hunter AND flee. If you can't run faster than everyone else, than you might get beat. The best sub is ranger so you can use widescan to find the prey. Plus an occasional scavence here and there can get you some decent items. So widescan (find the prey), flee (to the monster, not away), and stab like crazy to kill and TH should help make some serious dough. Oh yeah, good luck using sneak attack on an elemental, I can't find their back side. Can you? If anyone else would like to share some info on farming gil, then by all means please respond to this post. I'm always open to different gil making schemes. Seems I'm always looking to make some gil. Plus, if anyone would like to join me in the hunt we could kill all the air elementals at all 5 spawn locations in each wind cycle. Plus if Lumbering Lambert pops, we could take him down together. Maybe. |

For those of you who would like to reach Rank 5, there will be a party for this mission immediately following the Rank 4 mission. Emmetes friend has offered to help us with this mission as well. I currently have a Tenshodo invite, a requirement for this mission, so it can be passed around to those without Tenshodo membership. I would like the invite back at the end though, as it is worth 1 to 2 k. For all those interested, we will likely meet in Jeuno after completion of Rank 4 on Saturday. |
