  Five Easy Steps

Here's how you go about getting rid of the ads.

  • STEP #1.

After having created and published your site to a free hosting service, say Tripod, create a new blank file called index.html.

    Note
    :
This is an html file, and not an htm file. Html files have the first right to load as compared to an htm file of the same name, just as exe files are executed in preference to com files with the same name.

After having created the blank index.html file, include ONLY the following codes into it.

    [FrontPage Save Results Component]

Where XXX is your domain name. For example, if your domain name is mysite, your URL on Tripod will be http://mysite.tripod.com. Save this file into your ROOT directory.

Note: Index.html does not have a <body> tag. Relax, that's how it's meant to be.

  • STEP # 2.

Next, change all the links present in all your pages to point to the following:

    http://cgi.tripod.com/XXX/cgi-bin/no_ads.pl?YYY.htm

Where, XXX is your domain name as before, and YYY.htm is the name of the page this link points to.

EXAMPLE: Suppose your domain name is mysite, and the name of the page that this link points to is my_hobbies.htm. Then you will change the link to,

    http://cgi.tripod.com/mysite/cgi-bin/no_ads.pl?my_hobbies.htm

Now when a visitor to your site clicks on the link My Hobbies, your page titled my_hobbies will appear, but without the ads.

DEMO: Click on this link: My Hobbies. A page called my_hobbies.htm will open which will not contain any ads.

    Do This exercise for
ALL pages from which you want to remove your ads.

  • STEP # 3.

Now upload your site once again, this time to the cgi-bin directory. The cgi-bin directory figures in your root directory.

    NOTE:
If you are using Frontpage extensions on your site, you will not be able to publish your site to the cgi-bin directory using MS FrontPage because Frontpage extensions cannot be enabled for the cgi-bin directory. If this is the case, ftp you site to the cgi-bin. The easiest way of doing this is by using Cute Ftp. You can download Cute Ftp here.

Click here for a tutorial on how to ftp your site to the cgi-bin.

  • STEP # 4.
